The first of HSO's Open Events will be the re-creation of the 1960 Indianapolis 500 race, using the Gasoline Alley Mod on rFactor. The race will be run over the full 200 laps and according to the 1960 sporting rules. However, we have elected not to use yellow flags periods. This decision was made because yellow flags 1) would make for a too long race (our estimation is 3h30mn without yellows) 2) rFactor's handling of the yellow periods is not up to the job.
The race is open to all, but is limited to the 33 historic cars available in the mod.
Gasoline Alley Mod
The race will be run with the Gasoline Alley 1.00 mod by Gilles Benoit : download mod.
You will also need to download our tweaked .hdv file (with increased slipstreaming effect) : download hdv file (to unzip in your root rFactor folder).
The Circuit
We will use the Indianapolis 500 layout of the Indianapolis 1.00 by RacerAlex. You will need to download the tweaked HSO version (withouth pit speed limit), available here : download Indianapolis 1.00 (to unzip in your root rFactor folder). This circuit is independent from the original Indianapolis 1.00 and will not alter it if you already have it installed on your machine.
Schedule
The schedule of events will be as follows (all times CET) :
Sunday May 24th
20:00 : Pole Day
Friday May 29th
20:00 : Carburation Day (2-hour free practice session and starting procedure rehearsals)
Sunday May 31st
19:00 : Warm-up
19:50 : Drivers Briefing
20:00 : Race Day
Pole Day
Qualifying will be held one week before the race, with similar proceedings as in the real Indy 500.
- grid will be determined by the average speed of a 4-lap run.
- each car will do its run alone on the track.
- cars will take their turn on the track according to their race number. A driver absent at the scheduled time of his qualifying run will drop back to last in the qualifying order.
- each run will go as follows : the driver comes out of pits, covers his speed-up lap and proceeds with his 4-lap timed run.
- with 33 cars available for 33 grid spots, everybody will be qualified. Drivers who would not complete their qualifying run will be seeded on the grid according to their race numbers.
Carburation Day
This session will be the opportunity for the drivers to race against their opponents on track before the race day. As qualifying runs are made alone on the track, we strongly advise you to attend this practice session in order to get familiar with your opponents, the slip-streaming effect and multi-car racing altogether.
During this 2-hour session, a short 5-lap race complete with the starting procedure of the Sunday race will be held every 30 minutes. Yet another good reason to attend Carb Day .
Race Day
A last free practice session will be held one hour before race start. Ten minutes before race start, all track action stops and drivers must attend the official briefing, where the last instructions regarding the behaviour on track will be given. Race start will be at 8pm CET, and will be given flying behind the pace car after one formation lap.
Awards
The race winner will be awarded this trophy (43cm in height) :
