The first big surprise is the start of the season at the Yas Marina circuit in Abu Dhabi. After being dropped from the 2009 the San Luis event in Argentina was confirmed by SRO as the season opener of the 2010 championship. In today’s announced calendar there is no trip planned to Argentina, the only race in South America currently on the schedule is set to take place at a yet unknown circuit in Brazil.
GT1 World Championship races were also expected to take place in Australia, Bulgaria and Russia, but neither of these three countries are on the current provisional calendar. The race in Bucharest, Romania that was replaced with a round at the Hungaroring this season is not on the calendar either, the Hungaroring is again taking that spot.
A trip to Canada is planned for July 4th. The circuit that the FIA GT1 World Championship will use is still to be announced, but with the Fourth of July being a national holiday in the United States several American fans could make the trip and celebrate Independence Day on the other side of the border, if the race is held close to the US.
On August 29 the GT1 cars will race around the Nürburgring Grand Prix circuit. According to German sources the ADAC Nordrhein e.V decided to replace the Le Mans Series 1000 kilometers of the Nürburgring with the new GT1 World Championship as they were not happy with the Le Mans Series organisation and with the new FIA GT championship they hope to attract more spectators.
